Electrical Safety in France: still a major challenge!

Even if it is proven that France is advanced in the preventive field with mandatory diagnostics, there is still efforts to ensure the (re)compliance of facilities to protect property and people.

The National Observatory of Electrical Safety (ONSE), created by Consuel and Promotelec, now brings together the main players in the electricity and fire sector, such as firefighters, insurers, laboratories and the DHUP (The French Department of Housing, Urban Planning and Landscapes).
Its role is essential in consolidating and sharing data on electrical safety, thus alerting and guiding decision-makers .

👉 The latest 2024 report highlights an alarming finding: 83% of buildings over 15 years old have at least one electrical anomaly.
⚠️ The consequences are serious:

  • 3000 electrifications requiring emergency care each year
  • Between 30 and 40 deaths due to these electrical incidents
  • 20-35% of fires in buildings are caused by electrical failures

Insurers are also in high demand, with more than 286,000 damage reports each year, resulting in expenses of nearly 5 billion euros.


👉 Faced with these figures, it is essential to take better account of electrical safety, especially in old buildings.
